Christian Cuevas admits he didn't really anticipate having to sing for survival against Ali Caldwell on The Voice's semifinals results show.

"Ali and I, we looked at each other before hand, and we were like, 'Man, I don't think we need to run it really quick.' And we ended up being in the bottom three, and I mean everything happens for a reason, but I didn't know what to think. It was just a really surreal moment," Christian told reporters during a Wednesday conference call.

Home viewer votes determined Christian needed to sing for the "Instant Save" against Ali and Josh Gallagher. Christian belted out a beautiful version of "I Can't Make You Love Me" by Bonnie Raitt, but America decided Josh should stay in the competition.

"The most difficult part [of the show] I think for me was picking the song because each week, you want to pick the right song," Christian said, before rattling off more tough aspects of being on The Voice.

"And then trying to come up with the arrangement for that song once you pick it and then choreography, because I don't like moving a lot and stuff. And I think actually that was the hardest part for me is trying to move. But yes I think that's pretty much it."

Christian, a 20-year-old college student from Rochester, NY who currently resides in Orlando, FL, sang a religious hymn called "To Worship You I Live (Away)" by Israel & New Breed on Monday night's Top 8 performance show. The song felt so close to his heart that he began crying halfway through his performance.

Christian said he'd love to continue singing praise and worship style songs going forward in his career.

"I believe that [is on] the horizon. I could see myself, I mean, that's the only thing I've done before The Voice, is lead worship," he explained. "And that's not going to change. I'm not doing shows on Wednesday nights and I'm not doing shows on Sundays because I'm at church. And I got practice [on that big stage]."

Christian then revealed what he'll take away from his journey on The Voice.

"The main thing I've learned from this whole experience is to be yourself and be the best [version of yourself], and [my coach Alicia Keys] really instilled that in my mind," Christian told reporters.

"And since the beginning just being the best person I can be as a human and as an artist. And I've gained a lot of self-confidence that I didn't come in here with."

Christian said he would've been happy with the outcome no matter what.
