The Runner-Up starring Aiken, who lost his Congressional bid during last year's mid-term elections, will air as four one-hour episodes and feature a unique look inside an American campaign from the perspective of a candidate who's a former reality TV star and new to the political scene.
Aiken's campaign was to represent North Carolina's second district in the U.S. House during the November election. The Runner-Up will feature the singer and gay activist's candidacy decision, primary election -- which ended in the death of his Democratic opponent -- and his defeat to Republican Congresswoman Renee Ellmers.
As for the smaller details, The Runner-Up with also showcase the single dad's strategy sessions with his team, debate preparations and meetings with voters. Aiken ran with few resources and little support. He had to work hard to be taken seriously since he had previously competed on both American Idol and The Celebrity Apprentice.
The title The Runner-Up derives from the fact Aiken had finished in second place on both Idol's second season and The Celebrity Apprentice's fifth edition. He became a runner-up once again in the election.
