Just when you thought Idol-mania might be over, the Chicago Sun-Times reports that Vivendi Universal Publishing has announced a video game. based on the 'American Idol' reality tv show will hit store shelves on Nov. 1. The "American Idol: The Search for a Superstar" game will carry an estimated retail price of $30 and will include a microphone and feature more than 20 tunes on which would-be stars can record their own vocal tracks.

Director of development Cathy Siegel said the company came up with a concept and began programming a game in which players would compete for pop star fame well before Fox aired its first episode. "When we first saw the show, we realized it was a perfect fit for what we had already began work on," Siegel said.
One to two players will be able to create their own male or female contestants, selecting both hairstyles and clothing to suit their own tastes. Siegel said the game, for ages 10 and up, will include dance challenges where players have to hit a sequence of keys in time to music.
