Cory Wurtenberger and America Lopez quickly hit it off in the Big Brother house on Season 25. America found Cory to be sweet and a good listener, and he was impressed with her intelligence and quirky personality.
The pair flirted and cuddled for weeks in the beginning of the game, with Cory being responsible for pumping the brakes, but one kiss in September 2023 finally propelled their dynamic from a friendship into a showmance.
Cory explained to Us Weekly of his initial reluctance to get romantically involved with America, "I'm just kind of a tough nut to crack when it comes to intimacy. I'm just a little bit weird in that regard, and it takes me a long time to warm up to anybody. For whatever reason, [with] America, it came a lot easier for me."
One day after Cory's Big Brother eviction aired on CBS in October 2023, Cory shared with Us Weekly what he thought was in store for his relationship with America.
"I'm not worried about that. I'm excited about that," Cory told Us when asked how he believed his romance with America would fare in the real world.
"I'm very optimistic about our future, and if it doesn't work out, that's okay."
But Cory called America "incredible" and predicted things were going to "work out" between them.
The college student from Weston, FL, thought he and America -- a Texas native who resided in New York -- would deepen their bond once she exited the game.
"I think Big Brother brings people together, like, you kind of cling onto each other for support. But outside of the house, it kind of plays out in a similar way," Cory reasoned.
"Leaving the Big Brother house is its own nightmare crucible where, like, [you have] social media and all of this attention for at least a few months before you fade back into anonymity. And going through that with [America] is going to be really helpful, I think, to both of us."
America was evicted from the game shortly after Cory, and on November 10, Cory posted a photo with America and former BB24 couple Taylor Hale and Joseph Abdin on Instagram.
Cory wrote alongside the picture, "First date: Fanboying/fangirling at the mall."
In late November 2023, Cory posted a carousel of photos featuring America, and he captioned them, "I may not have won Big Brother, but I did sleep with the 4th member of the jury. Happy birthday babe."
And based on their social media activity, Cory and America still appear to be going strong in Summer 2024.
