Kathy Griffin is unsure if her use of the F-word while co-hosting CNN's live New Year's Eve coverage has gotten her fired from the network.

"I don't know if I got canned," said Griffin during a Tuesday night phone interview on The Late, Late Show with Craig Ferguson before joking, "I don't feel I have really done a job well until I get fired."

The Kathy Griffin: My Life on the D-List star seemingly said the F-word while discussing Falcon Heene -- the 7-year-old at the center of last year's balloon boy hoax -- with co-host Anderson Cooper.

It represented the second consecutive year Griffin co-hosted CNN's live coverage with Cooper -- and the second year in a row she used vulgar language, as she could be heard using the word "d--k" when responding to a heckler as the network went to a commercial break during the previous year's broadcast.

"I am sure that you are confused if you think that I would in anyway curse on television. How dare you! You son of a... handsome gun," Griffin joked to Ferguson.

However CNN executives apparently didn't find the repeat incident amusing, according to a Tuesday report that claimed network executives have decided to ban Griffin from future New Year's Eve shows.

"She was a total embarassment to the network that calls themselves 'The Most Trusted Name in News,'" a network insider told AOL's Popeater entertainment news website.

"Even Anderson thinks it's time to say goodbye to Kathy."

However CNN is still publicly maintaining the same stance it took right after the incident -- that Griffin's fate is still undecided.

"No decisions have been made yet regarding next year's show," CNN publicist Shimrit Sheetrit told Popeater.

Griffin explained her use of the F-word was "really a miscommunication."

"We were talking about the balloon boy -- Falcon Heene -- and I was amused by if you watch the world-wide coverage of that story than you can hear his first name pronounced in many different ways," she told Ferguson.

"In fact, his own mother has an accent and there were times that it sounded almost as if she pronounced the name of her own child Falcon as a verb that adult film actors use when they're f--king."

Since Griffin said she's unsure of her future with CNN, Ferguson felt his conversation with her didn't achieve any goal.

"I think we can all agree that didn't clear anything up at all," he joked after she was off the phone.
