"I took so much away from this. This was an amazing journey that really pushed me and showed me that I can do so much more than I ever thought I could," Bono told Dancing with the Stars co-host Brooke Burke when asked how proud he was of his journey.
"I came on this show because I wanted to show America a different kind of man and I know that if there was somebody like me on the TV when I was growing up, my whole life would have been different. And so I dedicate everything I did to all the people out there like me, especially the kids and teens who are struggling. You're going to have a wonderful, great life and be successful and happy."
Bono and Schwimmer had finished at the bottom of Monday night's judging leaderboard in seventh place after they danced a tango that received 19 out of 30 possible points from Dancing with the Stars judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli.
American women's soccer star Hope Solo and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy were the other couple still in danger of elimination prior to Bono and Schwimmer's ouster, however Burke noted they were not necessarily the other couple in the bottom two based on the combination of the judges' scoring and home viewer votes from Monday night's performance show.
Solo and Chmerkovskiy had finished in sixth place on the leaderboard after they received 20 points from the judges for their rumba routine.
Former talk show host Ricki Lake and Iraqi war veteran and All My Children soap star J.R. Martinez had topped the judges' leaderboard and finished tied for first place after they each received 29 points. Lake and Martinez both performed quickstep routines with their professional partners Derek Hough and Karina Smirnoff respectively.
Legal commentator Nancy Grace and partner Tristan MacManus had finished in third place on the leaderboard after they danced a foxtrot which received 24 points from the judges.
Fourth place went to actor David Arquette and partner Kym Johnson after they had earned 23 points from the judges for their quickstep routine.
Keeping Up with the Kardashians sibling Rob Kardashian and partner Cheryl Burke had finished one point behind them in fifth place on the judges' leaderboard after they danced a cha cha which received 22 points.
