Dancing with the Stars contestant Cody Simpson and his professional partner Witney Carson were eliminated from the competition Monday night, however, the Australian pop star apparently isn't torn up over it.

"It's all good... I'm sad... mixed feelings. It's kind of like, one amazing experience is over and Witney and I are kind of sad about it, but at the same time, I can just get back to what I do -- start working on the new album and really move on to the next phase of my career. It's going to be great," Simpson told E! News after last night's performance show.

Although he accepts his ouster, Simpson admitted he wasn't prepared to get sent home this week.

"Honestly we really had no clue. Witney and I were like, 'We'll be fine, we're going to be safe. It's all good.' It just kind of goes to show you, you should never get too comfortable," he explained.

But Simpson said he didn't enter the competition overly confident.

"I honestly went into it saying, 'Regardless of the outcome, it's going to make me a more well-rounded dancer. It's going to help me become a better entertainer, and if I can take what I learned from this experience and apply it to everything that I'm going to set my mind to for the future, that's all that matters,'" Simpson said.

"Regardless, Witney and I had an amazing experience and I made a great new friend in Witney and I've experienced some amazing things. Now, I can just really get back to what I do and focus on my career and a new music video just dropped tonight, so I can go and just really knuckle in for the future."

Simpson and Carson also insisted they'll remain friends even though their time on the show has ended so abruptly. 

"I'm going to miss [Witney], but we'll still hang out," Simpson told E! News. "We'll still chill. It'll be cool."

"Yea of course [we'll stay in touch]! We better," Carson added.

Simpson also noted he has his eyes on a couple celebrities whom he'd love to see win Dancing with the Stars' eighteenth season.

"I want [Amy Purdy] to win. I've always wanted Amy to win," Simpson acknowledged.

"Yeah, she's awesome," Carson explained. "Like what she's doing for the show, she's such an inspiration, and I think it's incredible for her."

"I'd love to see [Charlie White] do really well too, like, that guy's becoming one of my really good friends," Simpson told the magazine. "He's the sweetest guy in the whole world, so if he could go far as well, that would be amazing."

"I'm going to miss everyone!" Carson exclaimed.

Simpson and Carson danced before Monday night's round of elimination results were revealed, so they earned 34 out of 40 possible points for their The Lion King-inspired samba routine from Dancing with the Stars judges Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli and Carrie Ann Inaba as well as guest judge Donny Osmond. The couple finished in eighth place on the leaderboard out of nine pairings.
