Dancing with the Stars' Season 28 premiere got off to a great start for The Bachelorette star Hannah Brown and actor James Van Der Beek during Monday night's show on ABC.

James and Hannah topped the judges' leaderboard in first and second place, respectively, after making their debuts on Dancing with the Stars this season.

ABC unveiled Dancing with the Stars' Season 28 celebrity and professional pairings throughout the broadcast as each celebrity performed.

Hannah Brown is paired with returning pro Alan Bersten, while James is partnered with returning pro Emma Slater.

Comedian and actor Kel Mitchell is partnered with returning pro Witney Carson, and former Khloe & Lamar star and NBA champion Lamar Odom is paired with returning pro Peta Murgatroyd.

Actress Kate Flannery is matched with a newbie pro named Pasha Pashkov.

Country music star and former American Idol runner-up Lauren Alaina is paired with returning pro Gleb Savchenko, and Queer Eye star Karamo Brown is matched with returning pro Jenna Johnson.

Model Sailor Brinkley-Cook -- who replaced her mother, supermodel Christie Brinkley, in the competition -- is paired with Val Chmerkovskiy.

Former NFL football star Ray Lewis is dancing with returning pro Cheryl Burke this season, and iconic The Supremes singer Mary Wilson is paired with returning pro Brandon Armstrong.

Pop star and Fifth Harmony member Ally Brooke is matched with returning pro Sasha Farber for the new season, while former White House press secretary Sean Spicer is paired with returning pro Lindsay Arnold.

Daniella Karagach was also announced as a new pro dancer on Dancing with the Stars at the beginning of the show; however, she was not paired with a celebrity for this season.

In addition, Keo Motsepe was previously revealed to be a pro partner on Season 28, but he did not perform with a celebrity either.

Given this season's elimination of the Dancing with the Stars dance troupe, it appears Daniella and Keo will instead serve as alternates in case a pro is injured.

Dancing with the Stars' lineup of judges this season are Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Len Goodman.

James and Emma finished the night in first place after impressing with their tango routine and receiving a total of 21 out of 30 judges' points for their first dance.

Hannah and Alan claimed second place on the judges' leaderboard with 20 points after dancing the cha cha.

Lauren and Gleb placed third on the judges' leaderboard. They danced the cha cha for their first dance of the new season and racked in 19 points from the judges.

Christie was supposed to compete on Dancing with the Stars this season with Val; however, she broke her arm during a rehearsal on Thursday and needed immediate surgery on her wrist and arm.

"Showbiz is all about getting a break, and Sailor and I both got one on Dancing with the Stars this season," Christie, 65, said in a statement before the premiere.

"Sailor joined the cast when I got mine... ouch somebody stop me, it hurts to laugh!"

Christie told Dancing with the Stars host Tom Bergeron her arm had one of the worst breaks her doctor had ever seen. She apparently broke two bones and needed a metal plate and screws put in her arm.

Sailor, who has appeared in Sports Illustrated and only began preparing for her first dance several days before the premiere, and Val finished in fourth place.

Sailor and Val took the stage on the first night of competition with a foxtrot routine that earned 18 points from the judges.

Fifth place was a tie on the leaderboard between two couples at 17 points.

Mary and Brandon executed a foxtrot routine that received 17 points from the judges. And Karamo and Jenna performed a 17-point worthy salsa for Karamo's debut to the stage.

Kel and Witney place seventh after they took the stage with a tango routine that earned 16 points from the Dancing with the Stars judges.

Landing in eighth place on the judges' leaderboard, Ally and Sasha danced the cha cha for their first routine of the season. The judges scored them a total of 16 points.

On their heels were Kate and Pasha as well as Ray and Cheryl, who tied for ninth place on the judges' leaderboard with 15 points apiece.

Kate and Pasha received a score of 15 points from the judges for their cha cha routine, and Ray and Cheryl earned the same score after dancing the salsa on the show.

Sean and Lindsay finished in eleventh place on the judges' leaderboard with 12 points after taking the stage with a salsa routine for the first night of competition.

And finally, Lamar and Peta executed the foxtrot on the stage and earned 11 points from the judges -- a score the audience had loudly booed that landed them in last place on the leaderboard.

The judges' scores from Monday night will be added to next week's judges' scores to help determine the first elimination of the season. Those scores will be added to home viewer votes cast live during the upcoming Monday, September 23 broadcast on ABC.

ABC previously announced Dancing with the Stars fans will only be able to vote as the upcoming live broadcasts air in the Eastern and Central time zones. That means after an episode ends, the viewer voting will too, unlike in previous seasons.

Viewers in the Mountain and Pacific time zones will still also be able to vote for their favorites; however, they must vote during the same period of time as Eastern and Central time zone viewers, which means they'll probably have to vote without being able to actually watch the dance routines first.

Live voting on abc.com and via text will commence with Week 2 of the Dancing with the Stars season.

Beginning in Week 3 of the Dancing with the Stars competition, the live votes will be combined with the judges' scores for the night, sending a couple home. As a result, voting totals will be revealed live at the end of each broadcast.

There will also be a big announcement at the start of the show on September 23 about this season's eliminations.
