Ezra, 23, took to Instagram Stories on Wednesday and wrote of Anna's "nothing" comment, which has since gone viral, "I think she was referring to taking anything away 'physically.'"

But earlier this week, Ezra suggested that Anna was taking a shot at Dancing with the Stars and didn't really care how her remark would be perceived by the public.

"I knew she was going to say something very iconic and something very Anna Delvey with her exit," Ezra told Extra on Tuesday, September 24.

"Of course, she has to. It's very typical. We would expect nothing less of her."

After Anna, a convicted felon, and reality TV star Tori Spelling were both eliminated during Dancing with the Stars' Season 33 episode on Tuesday night, Tori happily called her short-lived experience on the show "unbelievable."

But when Dancing with the Stars co-host Julianne Hough asked Anna to share her takeaway, Anna replied, "Nothing," as Ezra shook his head and smiled.

"There you have it! Absolutely nothing," Julianne said with a laugh, before host Alfonso Ribeiro quipped to Anna, "You had fun, stop it."

But Ezra revealed to Extra that Anna was actually very kind and gracious to him behind the scenes.

In fact, Anna allegedly felt guilty about Ezra's early ouster from his debut Dancing with the Stars season.

"She honestly kept on apologizing to me," Ezra shared. "She felt super sorry that my first season was cut short."

Ezra said he wishes that he and Anna could have "stayed longer" in the competition.

"I honestly wanted to stay longer for my partner. I really wanted to give her a chance to really grow on camera and let America really see who she really is," Ezra said.

The pro dancer and choreographer insisted that Anna is actually "incredibly sweet" and so she's "misunderstood" in the eyes of Dancing with the Stars viewers.

"I really tried my best to see her for the person she is outside the persona," Ezra added.

But Anna has faced a lot of backlash and criticism for appearing on Dancing with the Stars after spending time in jail.

Former Dancing with the Stars pro and guest judge Maksim Chmerkovskiy even called Anna "a professional liar" and a flat out "sh-tty dancer" who doesn't really deserve anyone's respect.

According to a TikTok video Ezra posted earlier this week, he found Anna crying in the bathroom and it "broke [his] heart" to see that.

"Anna is a tough cookie, so seeing her in that state really shocked me and made me sad. In that moment, I just grabbed her hands and told her, 'When you are in the competition with me, whatever you are going through, I am going through with you,'" Ezra recalled.

When looking back on his self-described "memorable" experience on Dancing with the Stars, Ezra wrote on Instagram how he feels the "deepest gratitude" to Anna.

"Yes, she's been controversial," he wrote, "but working with her gave me the chance to see a different side -- one filled with her hard work, determination, and resilience."

Ezra went on to thank the Dancing with the Stars family as well as friends and fans.

"[Anna], I want to thank you for dancing with me and for opening up. You allowed me to see a side of you that not many have, and I'm grateful for that," Ezra concluded in his post.

"I truly hope that one day, America gets to meet that side of you too. They will love her just as much as I do. Wishing you the best and can't wait to hangout and make TikToks soon. xx #dwts."

The day after Anna's departure from Dancing with the Stars in the special double elimination, Anna appeared to stand by her cutting comment when she reposted praise from her friend and publicist Kelly Cutrone via Instagram Stories.

"Loving the real of @theannadelvey. I could give 2 fks flex," Kelly wrote on Wednesday.

Maksim didn't hesitate to slam Anna when discussing her Dancing with the Stars casting on the September 23 episode of the "TMZ Podcast."

"If you want an ankle [bracelet] and sort of this, 'Damn, this is going to draw attention,' and the scandalousness of it all -- I mean, man, there's so many other people you can choose from," Maksim complained.

Maksim confessed he was "absolutely not" a fan of Anna and he couldn't believe a word that she said.

Maksim went on to critique Anna's first cha cha performance with Ezra for which she had bedazzled her ankle monitor.

"She wasn't great. She was very kind of standoffish in a lot of things," Maksim explained.

"You can blame the nerves and say, 'Hey, everybody's human and this person is not used to that stage.' Bullsh-t. Hold on a second -- didn't she con people into believing she was, like, fully fashion this and special like that?"

Maksim said fooling the world "takes a lot of guts" and so he wasn't buying that Anna was "nervous" to be on TV either.

"She's just a sh-tty dancer, and her personality is not really going to help her in this competition," Maksim said.

When asked to share how many weeks he thought Anna would remain in the Dancing with the Stars competition, Maksim responded, "I don't care."

The pro dancer and dad admitted, "She's not somebody I'd tune in to watch. I feel for [Ezra], he's got an uphill climb -- just even the dancing part of it."

Maksim concluded, "You're going to have to do a lot more to win somebody like me over after everything that you were accused of. But now you get to [serve] your time by bedazzling your ankle brace and being on national TV? I'm not about that."

On Dancing with the Stars' premiere, Anna had chosen "Espresso" by Sabrina Carpenter as her anthem. She and Ezra ended up in a three-way tie for eighth place on the judges' leaderboard after receiving a total of 18 out 30 possible points from Derek Hough, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli.

Following their performance, Carrie Ann asked viewers to give Anna a chance because she could tell the studio audience wasn't very supportive or receptive of her.

Anna was arrested in 2017 and indicted on multiple counts of grand larceny and misdemeanor theft.

Anna was released from prison on parole in 2021. Her story about fraudulently posing as a wealthy German heiress was developed into the 2022 miniseries Inventing Anna on Netflix.

On Dancing with the Stars' latest broadcast, Anna and Ezra only received 17 points for their quickstep performance to "Suddenly I See" by KT Tunstall.
