Katrina Smirnoff's early exit from Dancing with the Stars' fifth season apparently wasn't all bad news, as it allowed her to have a medical procedure that should aid her on the dance floor.

"I'm excited and extremely nervous," Smirnoff told Extra in a Monday report that was filmed prior to the procedure. "But I do want to go through with it. I think I'm ready."
While Smirnoff says the procedure was done for aesthetic reasons -- she's broken her nose twice in the past six years -- the surgery was served a medical purpose as well.
The procedure was performed by Beverly Hills surgeon Dr. Nicholas Nicolov, who told Extra the surgery corrected the asymmetry of Smirnoff's nose as well as the small bump on the bridge of her nose and the deviated septum, which should pay dividends when she's dancing.
"She can breath easier," Nicolov told Extra. "She may find [herself] being a little less tired, a little less winded."
While Smirnoff will be in bandages for seven to 10 days following the surgery and it will take a full year for everything to set into place -- Extra reported 90% of the results will be visible in three weeks.
That should be just in time for Smirnoff and her fifth-season celebrity partner -- professional boxer Floyd Mayweather Jr. -- to return for Dancing with the Stars 5's live final two-hour results show broadcast on November 27.
