Dancing with the Stars eliminated a sobbing Sailor Brinkley-Cook and her professional partner Val Chmerkovskiy after nine celebrities took the stage with new dances during Monday night's Season 28 broadcast on ABC.

When Sailor and Val's ouster was announced, Sailor -- who replaced her mother, supermodel Christie Brinkley, at the start of the competition -- began crying and sobbing to the point where she even couldn't talk to host Tom Bergeron and co-host Erin Andrews.

Val declared, "I'm so proud of her," before turning to his celebrity partner and saying, "Hey, hey, hey, you're okay. Come on, keep your head up."

"She's a star! This was just an appetizer to an incredible career and, more importantly, an incredible life," Val added as he was trying to comfort Sailor.

The model and Val landed in the bottom two along with pop star and Fifth Harmony member Ally Brooke and partner Sasha Farber based on the combination of judges' scores and live home-viewer votes from the last two performance shows. Votes were cast live as Dancing with the Stars aired in the Eastern and Central time zones Monday night on ABC.

Dancing with the Stars judges Carrie Ann Inaba, Bruno Tonioli and Len Goodman were able to vote to save one of the bottom-two couples from elimination. (Len, as the head judge, casts the deciding vote in the case of opposing votes from Carrie Ann and Bruno).

Len did not have to voice his opinion because both Carrie Ann and Bruno voted to save Ally and Sasha.

Prior to Sailor and Val's emotional exit, each celebrity and professional pairing performed one time -- and actor James Van Der Beek and partner Emma Slater won the night by topping the two-week leaderboard.

James and Emma finished in first place on the judges' leaderboard after receiving a two-week total score of 53 out of 60 points. On Monday night, James and Emma executed a samba routine that earned 27 out of 30 points from the judges.

Ally and Sasha tied for second place on the leaderboard with comedian and actor Kel Mitchell and partner Witney Carson. Each couple tallied a total score of 52 judges' points.

Ally and Sasha performed a quickstep on Monday night that earned 25 points from the judges, while Kel and Witney also took the stage with a quickstep dance that added 26 points to their score from last week.

Two pairs tied for fourth place on the judges' leaderboard with 51 total points: Sailor and Val as well as actress Kate Flannery and partner Pasha Pashkov.

Sailor and Val danced a 27-point worthy jive routine on Monday night, while Kate and Pasha performed a Viennese waltz that also received 27 points from the judges.

Sixth place also represented a tie between the following two celebrities at 49 total points: Country music star and former American Idol runner-up Lauren Alaina as well as The Bachelorette star Hannah Brown.

Lauren and partner Gleb Savchenko danced an emotional contemporary routine in honor of Lauren's deceased stepfather that received 26 judges' points, while Hannah and partner Alan Bersten took the stage with a samba number that gave them an additional 24 points onto last week's score.

Queer Eye star Karamo Brown and partner Jenna Johnson found themselves in eighth place on the judges' leaderboard. After performing a contemporary routine that received 25 points from the judges on Monday night, their two-week total was 46 points.
