Derek Peth's mature reaction to Demi Burnett's conflicted heart on Bachelor in Paradise pulled at Bachelor Nation's heartstrings, and now people are campaigning for him to become the next The Bachelor star -- including Wells Adams, Chris Randone and Kristina Schulman.

And Chris, who got engaged to Krystal Nielson on last summer's edition of Bachelor in Paradise, tweeted, "Please like and retweet if you agree this GEM should be the next #Bachelor #bachelorinpadadise @PethDerek."
And Season 6 cast member Kristina wrote Tuesday night on Twitter, "And here we have our next #TheBachelor Derek, who is level headed, emotionally intelligent, sensitive, sweet, and understanding. Raise your hand to cast your vote #BachelorInParadise."
Derek has been praised for how he handled a difficult and heartbreaking situation on Bachelor in Paradise's currently-airing season.
Derek quickly fell for Demi in Paradise and gushed about how the spark and instant chemistry they had felt is hard to come by. It didn't take long for Derek and Demi to become the most established and healthy couple in Mexico, but Demi was secretly torn up inside.
Demi couldn't stop thinking about a woman she had been dating at home and left to appear on Paradise, Kristian Haggerty. The more Demi got to know and care for Derek, the more she thought about and missed Kristian as well.

When Demi first expressed to Derek how her heart was pulling her in two different directions and she was romantically interested in a woman back home, Derek came across understanding and supportive.
"I can't put myself in her shoes. Truth be told, I can't understand the level of bravery and courage that it took to say to me," Derek said.
While it hurt Derek to know Demi had strong feelings for someone else -- regardless of whether the person was male or female -- he wanted to continue their romance and hopefully win her heart over. Derek sympathized with what Demi was going through, saying it was much more than what he had to endure.

Once Kristian arrived in Paradise during Tuesday night's episode, Demi apparently knew within seconds of seeing her that they were meant to be together. Demi therefore let Derek down gently, and he cried about always getting rejected.
"I always get hurt," Derek said, before promising Demi that he wasn't blaming her.
"You're everything anyone could ever want, but it's just what my heart feels," Demi told Derek, adding that he's the "most amazing guy" she had ever dated.
Derek vented about how he's never a woman's first choice. He was tired of being told he's "a great guy" considering he never ends up with the girl, and he questioned whether he'd ever find a relationship in which his feelings are reciprocated.

Derek was then shown gracefully and politely discussing the situation with Kristian so there would be no tension or awkwardness. Derek made it known he just wanted Demi to be happy and so her choice was ultimately the right one.
Derek, although crushed and heartbroken, also wanted to prove Demi should feel comfortable enough to pursue her same-sex romance on the show in front of him.
Bachelor Nation latched on to Derek after Tuesday night's episode, and Twitter exploded with support for Derek becoming the star of The Bachelor's upcoming 24th edition, which is slated to premiere in January 2020.

Other men rumored to be in the running for the next Bachelor are Mike Johnson and Peter Weber from Hannah Brown's season of The Bachelor.
Derek first competed for JoJo Fletcher's heart on The Bachelorette's twelfth season, but he didn't make it very far.
Derek went on to find love with Taylor Nolan on Season 4 of Bachelor in Paradise and the pair got engaged, but they announced their split in June 2018. Distance appeared to play a huge role in their breakup.
ABC has yet to announce who will star as the Bachelor, but the decision is expected to be made soon.
