"I just spoke privately with Dan, and I want to update you guys. A decision has been made and Dan will not be returning to the game. He won't be coming back to camp; he won't be on the jury. He's gone," Jeff explained to the castaways, without getting into further detail.
At the episode's conclusion, the following vague on-screen graphic appeared: "Dan was removed from the game after a report of another incident, which happened off-camera and did not involve a player."
Given Kellee Kim had complained about Dan allegedly inappropriately touching herself and other female Survivor castaways during the game -- resulting in Dan receiving a formal warning from the show's producers on Day 22 -- the statement's phrasing suggested Dan was involved in "another incident" involving inappropriate touching.
In addition, the statement's claim that the new incident "did not involve a player" seemed to suggest it involved a Survivor crew member working on the show's production.
And according to multiple sources involved with Survivor's production team, the incident in question did in fact involve a member of the show's crew, People reported.
The sources claim the incident occurred when Dan and his fellow castaways were getting into a boat that would transport them back to camp following an Immunity Challenge.

While entering the boat, Dan allegedly touched a female crew member's leg, People reported, and at least one of the remaining castaways also witnessed the alleged groping.
Dan, however, reportedly insisted the contact was accidental and unintentional, claiming he had lost his balance when attempting to step into the boat.
But the show's production team weren't convinced Dan's gesture was innocent, so they consulted with Survivor's legal team and then decided to remove him from the game later on.

Since Dan was still in the game for Elaine Stott's vote off at Night 35's Tribal Council and removed on Day 36, the incident presumably took place earlier on Day 35, when the castaways were leaving the Immunity Challenge in which they had to solve a large word puzzle and Dean won the immunity necklace.
Jeff told Entertainment Weekly after Wednesday night's episode Dan was "not happy" to be booted from the show, but People's insiders claim the 48-year-old talent manager who currently resides in Los Angeles, CA, was actually furious and vehemently disagreed with producers' decision.
Neither CBS or Dan have made any statements on the matter, but according to People, Dan has been uninvited from the three-hour finale taping of Survivor: Island of the Idols on Wednesday, December 18.

For the first time in Survivor's near 20-year run on television, the three-hour Survivor finale event that usually takes place live will film earlier in the day and air on tape delay, Entertainment Weekly reported.
According to an Entertainment Weekly source close to the situation, the decision not to air the finale live was "due to the sensitive nature of the material this season."
In addition, there are security concerns and CBS wants to make sure Survivor: Island of the Idols' castaways "feel as comfortable and safe as possible while discussing what happened out on the island," EW reported.
After filming earlier in the day, the three-hour finale of Survivor: Island of the Idols will still air on CBS from 8-11PM ET/PT.
