When E!'s new Living Lohan reality series premieres later this month, it will apparently be without the family's most famous member.

"I told Lindsay I don't want her on the show right now," said Lohan matriarch Dina in TV Guide's May 26 issue.  "Doing reality TV would almost be taking a step backward as far as her career goes."

Living Lohan will premiere Monday, May 26 at 10:30PM ET/PT on E! and follow the single mom as she attempts to start 14-year-old daughter Ali's burgeoning singing and acting career; tries to keep track of her 11-year-old son Cody's school and sports schedule; and makes sure her 20-year-old son Michael stays on track in college.

"I did this to defuse the rumors about my family," Dina told TV Guide.  "The media has just been so horrific to us over the past two years... I just want to get the message across that we're a normal family."

Similar to Lindsay, Dina's ex-husband Michael Douglas Lohan Sr. won't be making any appearances on the eight-episode series.

"We kept personal family issues with their dad off-limits," Dina told TV Guide.  "No one wants to bash anyone.  So we didn't go there."

While the majority of the Lohan clan will be involved in the series, it's Ali's career and Dina's handling of it that will receive much of the focus.

"She's doing whatever she can to help her daughter Ali," psychotherapist Stacy Kaiser told TV Guide in speculating on Dina's motives for the show.  "Plus, it focuses on the good kid, and not the one with problems."

Ali recently traveled to Las Vegas' Palms Casino to record tracks for her debut solo album for Interscope Records, a follow-up to her Christmas compilation.

Living Lohan is a co-production of The Real World producers Bunim-Murray Productions and Maloof Television -- a production company owned by George and Phil Maloof, the Maloof family siblings who own both the Palms Casino and Maloof Music, a joint-venture record label they started with Interscope.

"Ali wants to pursue a singing career. She's not too young. If that's what she wants to do then let her," Living Lohan producer Gavin Maloof told OK! Weekly in a Monday report.  "She's got a wonderful voice. You are going to be surprised at how much talent she has."

In addition, Gavin also debunked rumors that Dina is an overbearing stage mom, calling the rumors "100% not true."

"My biggest surprise with Dina was how close-knit the family was and how supportive she is with her children," he told OK!. "She treats them all equally."
