Amish communities are apparently not serene enough to exist without powerful leaders and protectors.

Discovery Channel has announced it will premiere Amish Mafia -- a new reality series which will follow a small organized group of men whom many Amish people in Lancaster County, PA turn to for maintaining peace, protection and justice -- on Wednesday, December 12 at 9PM ET/PT.
Preceding the show's debut, the network will air a sneak peak of Amish Mafia on Tuesday, December 11 at 10:30PM ET/PT. Viewers will get to see a glimpse into how the organized group of men create order in their Amish community.
Amish Mafia will feature a side of Amish society that remains under wraps, according to Discovery, and provide eyewitness accounts of wrongdoings within the Amish community and how Lebanon Levi, the leader and most powerful member of the group, and his team handle those incidents to establish peace and harmony.
However given the subject matter, Amish Mafia won't be 100% reality. According to the network, some of the show's scenes will be reenactments, and pieces of identifying information and property have also been changed in order to protect some of the cast and their family members.

Below is Discovery's full description of Amish Mafia star Levi and his team:
Levi exists above the law and occupies the role of police, judge and jury. Levi's team engages in a life outside of Amish and non-Amish community codes as he quietly exerts his influence and control. Levi's brand of order is precise as he seeks to keep outside forces from infiltrating the Amish community, while keeping the principles and morality within the community in check."
Levi's team is lean and fearless. Alvin is Levi's right hand man and nobody gets to Levi without going through Alvin first. A lifelong friend, Alvin is at first glance an average passive Amish community member. However, he has a dark side, a past, and most importantly, Levi's complete trust. Alvin will protect Levi at any cost.
Other group members include Jolin, a Mennonite who serves as Levi's foot soldier, and John, the youngest member of the group. As a non-Amish member of the group, Jolin has the freedom and ability to carry out punishments of all levels against offenders.
John, the junior member of the group, is the son of the late former protector who maintained peace in the community for many years before Levi took power. John struggles with his desire to follow in his father's footsteps and take Levi's place as the head of the group.
