Palin and Burnett began shopping the series earlier this month, with Discovery and A&E Networks emerging as the front runners, according to Variety. However A&E -- which operates A&E, History and Lifetime -- apparently dropped out of the running on Monday, making Discovery the "presumptive winner."
Discovery officials were unavailable for comment when contacted by Variety, however Palin could be at the media company's official upfront presentation on April 8 in New York.
Dubbed Sarah Palin's Alaska, the series would focus on "interesting characters, traditions and attractions" in Alaska, according to Variety, which added Palin would serve as the "guide" for viewers.
Burnett and Palin reportedly shopped the reality series to ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox, however cable networks expressed more interest in it due to its passive nature. Discovery has reportedly agreed to pay "more than $1 million an episode" for Sarah Palin's Alaska, a high fee for a new cable reality series.
It's still unknown which Discovery-owned network the series will air on. In addition to Discovery Channel, the company's networks also include TLC, Animal Planet, Planet Green, and the upcoming Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN).
