Drew Lachey apparently wants Dancing with the Stars to transform back into a true dancing competition, as he seems to believe the show is currently more of a popularity contest.

While the former 98 Degrees singer admitted he's rooting for Emmitt Smith and Cheryl Burke -- whom Lachey was partnered with when he won Dancing with the Stars' second season in 2006 -- to win Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars, he seems frustrated at the continued survival of contestants like Bristol Palin and Kirstie Alley, who have survived the show's first four eliminations despite finishing in last or next-to-last place on the judging leaderboard each week.

"I of course want Emmitt and Cheryl to do well. Obviously, she's my former partner and Emmitt's a friend of mine. Ultimately, I want the show to just be able to kind of get this monkey off its back of the quality of dancing maybe not being what some people expect and different people still being on the show," Lachey said during a Wednesday morning appearance on Good Morning America alongside Dancing with the Stars partner Anna Trebunskaya and fellow eliminated dancer Helio Castroneves and his partner Chelsie Hightower.

"I just want the show to have that credibility and legitimacy, because ultimately, I'm just a fan of the show at the end of the day."

Although Lachey and Trebunskaya finished tied for ninth place with Alley and partner Maksim Chmerkovskiy on Monday night's leaderboard, he said he thought they deserved a higher score than 24 points for their cha cha performance from Dancing with the Stars judges Len Goodman, Carrie Ann Inaba and Bruno Tonioli.

"How did I like my scoring? Well, let me just get comfortable for this one. Grrrr! That's how much I liked it," Lachey joked.

"No, it's frustrating. It's frustrating. That's part of the thing about going first [on the performance show] though. They've got to start the bar somewhere, and they'll go and build on the scores from there. I thought [our cha cha] was better than some of the other dances that got similar scores. But, you know, it doesn't really matter. I had fun doing it and I had a blast dancing with Anna. So, it all comes out in the wash."

Lachey and Trebunskaya, along with Castroneves and Hightower, were eliminated from Dancing with the Stars: All-Stars during last night's live results show after being declared the bottom-two couples based on the combination of the judges' scores they had received during Monday night's performance show and the home viewer votes that were cast afterwards.
