After deciding to pick a more time-intensive Detour option after failing to locate the site of their first choice, Duke and Lauren Marcoccio were the last team to reach The Amazing Race 10's third Pit Stop, causing the father and daughter team to become the fourth team to be eliminated from the latest edition of the CBS reality show.

While more than two hours separated the first team (dating friends Peter Harsch and Sarah Reinertsen) to leave the Pit Stop from the last team (single moms Lyn Turk and Karlyn Harris ) to leave the Pit Stop, all the teams were quickly bunched back together. Not only did all the teams need to book their airplane tickets via a Genghis Khan Hotel travel agency that didn't open until nearly all the teams had found it, but a lack of flight options resulted in all nine teams -- despite some line cutting drama caused by beauty queens Dustin Konzelman and Kandice Pelletier -- flying to Hanoi on the same Beijing-connecting flight.
Once the teams arrived in Hanoi, the teams took taxis to the remains of Hoa Lo Prison, the infamous "Hanoi Hilton" that held American servicemen as prisoners of war during the Vietnam War. Although Duke and Lauren fell into last place when they made the potentially fatal mistake of deciding that they needed to wait for a fellow passenger to tell their taxi driver how to find the popular former prison turned tourist museum, the delay proved harmless when the teams discovered that the museum had already closed for the evening.
After spending the night sleeping outside the museum while they waited for it to open the next morning, the teams raced into the former prison grounds and attempted to find an exhibit housing the flightsuit of United States Senator John McCain, one of the prison's most famous POW captives. Once they found the exhibit, the teams received a clue directing them to travel one and half miles to Hanoi's Old Quarter district. Once there, they would have to find a marked flower shop to receive their next clue.
While most of the teams used some of their little remaining cash (all of the teams had received no additional money at the beginning of the race leg) to take taxis to the flower shop, the fact that they had used their last $11 to pay for the previous evening's airport taxi forced Duke and Lauren to walk the one and half mile distance.
Once the teams found the flower shop, they had to complete the leg's Roadblock -- taking one of the shop's flower bicycles and selling 80,000 Vietnamese dung (about $5) worth of freshly cut flowers Since they hadn't received any money for this leg of the Race, the team's were allowed to keep any of the money they raised. While some of the first teams to arrive appeared to make a sincere effort to ride their bicycle around the nearby city streets, many of the later arriving teams appeared to barely use the bicycles and just sold their flowers while standing on the street outside the shop.
After completing the Roadblock, the teams received a clue instructing them to take a public bus thirty miles to the tiny village of Vac. Once there, they had to find a Buddhist temple that contained their next clue. Despite being the fifth team to complete the Roadblock, brothers Erwin and Godwin Cho managed to become the first team to board a Vac-bound bus. Similarly, although they were the sixth team to complete the Roadblock, gay partners Tom Rock and Terry Cosentino were the second team to board a Vac-board bus. Despite being the last team to arrive at the flower shop, Duke and Lauren managed to make it onto the third bus that ended up carrying all but one of the rest of the Race's remaining teams. Although they'd been the first team to finish the Roadblock, Peter and Sarah fell into last place when, after initially getting on the wrong bus, they ended up boarding a later fourth Vac-bound bus.
After finding the Buddhist temple, the teams were presented with the Race's third Detour -- "Fuel" or "Fowl." "Fuel" required the teams to use wet coal and traditional presses to create thirty coal bricks, a common fuel source in Vietnam. "Fowl" required the teams to use traditional materials and local methods to create a bell-shaped birdcage. While both Detour options were located within the tiny village, the teams had to rely on the directions of locals to locate both of them. On their way to the temple, Tom and Terry made the mistake of accepting motorbike rides from locals -- a rules violation that would later come back to haunt the couple and nearly result in their elimination.
Although they arrived on the bus via four different buses, all of the teams initially decided to complete the "Fuel" Detour option. However, after getting separated from all of the rest of their fellow third bus teams as they all frantically searched for the "Fuel" site, Duke and Lauren decided -- after stumbling across it as they continued to search for the "Fuel" location -- to instead complete the "Fowl" Detour option.
As the team time to arrive in Vac, Erwin and Godwin were easily the first team to complete the Detour. Once the Detour was completed, the teams had to walk or run the short distance to Canh Dong Dia, an expansive rice paddy that served as the Race's third Pit Stop. As the first team to check-in to the Pit Stop, Erwin and Godwin won a "state of the art entertainment system."
Meanwhile, back in the village, the rest of the still-wandering third bus teams finally found the "Fuel" site and joined Tom and Terry and David and Mary Conley (who despite falling back the rest of the third bus teams due to Mary's ankle injury, had somehow managed to find the site before the rest of the third bus teams) in making coal bricks. After their bus arrived, Peter and Sarah also appeared to find the "Fuel" site without significant issue.
Despite being the second team to complete the Detour and arrive at the Pit Stop, The Amazing Race host Phil Keoghan shocked Tom and Terry by announcing that since they had violated the show's rules and traveled by motorbike, they had to stand on the side and wait thirty minutes to be formally checked-in.

Although they'd arrived at the "Fuel" location last, Peter and Sarah managed to finish the Detour task ahead of Lyn and Karlyn, who had been on the third bus. Meanwhile, as they continued to work on their birdcage, Duke and Lauren did their best to convince themselves that they had made a "great decision" by instead deciding to complete the "Fowl" Detour option.
In the end, all of the "Fuel" teams managed to reach the Pit Stop before Tom and Terry's thirty minute penalty elapsed (with Lyn and Karlyn even managing to check in sixth ahead of David and Mary due to Mary's injury), turning the competition into a race against the clock for Duke and Lauren. Although they appeared to gave it a good shot, Duke and Lauren failed to reach the Pit Stop before Tom and Terry's penalty ended, and once they arrived at the Pit Stop mat, they heard Phil tell them the words that no racer ever wants to hear -- "Duke and Lauren, you're the last team to arrive, I'm sorry to tell you that you have been eliminated from the Race."
