"It's so gratifying for my second book to be so successful and it was so fun to write! The characters were already developed so I really enjoyed the process so much more this time around," Conrad told People.
"All the characters have become like my friends now."
"L.A. Candy" -- Conrad's debut novel that was released last June -- topped The New York Times Best Seller list last July.
While the book is fictional, it largely mirrors Conrad's own life and follows a 19-year-old girl named Jane Roberts as she moves to Hollywood and finds herself starring in her own reality show.
"Sweet Little Lies" continues to follow Roberts as she experiences some of the problems that come with being a celebrity.
"I just sat in bed writing and it was the best process," Conrad told People. "Who gets to work from home in their PJ's?"
Conrad -- who inked a September 2008 deal with HarperCollins Publishers for a three-book young adult fiction series -- was working on the third book in the series last fall and is currently on tour promoting "Sweet Little Lies."
"I'm just so thankful to my fans. Everyone is coming out to see me in the snow," she told People. "I just can't believe it."
Last September, Temple Hill Entertainment acquired the movie rights to "L.A. Candy."
