Angie Layton, a 20-year-old student from Provo, UT, was voted out of her Survivor: Philippines' Matsing tribe during Wednesday night's third episode of the CBS reality series' 25th edition.
 
Angie was voted out of her tribe at the season's third Tribal Council, which was also the third elimination vote for Matsing, after tribemates Malcolm Freberg and Denise Stapley had determined she and Russell Swan were the weakest links in the tribe. Due to the fact Angie and Russell failed to contribute much athleticism and timeliness to the Immunity Challenges, it became an obvious decision for Malcolm and Denise to eliminate Angie first, as Russell at least brought strength to the table.

In an exclusive interview on Thursday, Angie talked to Reality TV World about her short-lived Survivor: Philippines experience -- including whether she really did have a crush on Malcolm but hid her feelings while on the show, why she picked Malcolm in the beginning to cuddle with over any of her other tribemates when it clearly could've put a target on her back, and how she justified making the silly "cookie" comment during a serious Tribal Council session.

Reality TV World: Your cuddling with Malcolm seemed to be the major thing that concerned people and sparked a lot of discussion around camp, and there obviously were five other people in your tribe when the game started. So if you did need to snuggle with someone for warmth, did you ever consider maybe Malcolm might not be the best choice? Like maybe instead of the one young, good-looking single guy in your tribe maybe you should've picked one of the other women or one of the married guys? (Laughs)

Angie Layton: (Laughs) No. I mean everyone -- it just kind of happened that way. I don't know, it just kind of happened just [because] of the way that we slept. Denise slept in a little ball and ["Roxy" Roxanne Morris] was slapping herself every night, so cuddling would be hard because of the bugs and stuff. And me and Malcolm, it just happened that way. He was a life-saver. I was freezing! It was mutual warmth.

Reality TV World: Some viewers have actually been wondering why you didn't seem to have any interest in Malcolm. Is he not your type, or did you specifically not want to get involved with a guy during the show?

Angie Layton: It's not that. It's just that I'm not on The Bachelor. I was there to win. Obviously I had a lot of fun and he was a lot of fun to hang out with and it was fun, but at the end of the day, we're there to win a million dollars. That was my main goal and that's what I was trying to stay on track with. (Laughs)

Reality TV World: You seemed really upset about Roxy's comments at the Tribal Council where she was voted off, and when you got back to camp afterwards, you were shown calling them "so unnecessary" and saying you were frustrated she had thrown Malcolm and yourself "under the bus." Can you elaborate on what you meant by that a little -- I mean, short of quitting, she had to say something to try and convince your tribe not to vote her out, so do you think she just didn't go about it the right way?

Angie Layton: Yeah, I felt the whole thing was unnecessary for her. She just blew it all up. She just kind of went off, and the things she said, I just felt were unnecessary. I mean, she didn't need to say, "Oh yeah, they're in an alliance and they could probably be together and dating."

It's like, she didn't know anything. It was just unnecessary, everything she said. There was just so much tension in Tribal Council that it just was -- you know, I was trying to crack a joke. I just wanted to get it over with and her to be gone, really.

Reality TV World: Speaking of jokes, I need to ask you about that "cookie" comment.

Angie Layton: (Laughs)

Reality TV World: From your standpoint, was that a joke? I'm guessing it was a joke? (Laughs)

Angie Layton: Okay, this is the cookie comment. I knew I was 100% percent safe. There was no doubt I was going home. We all agreed Roxy was going home. So when we got to Tribal, I just wanted to get it over with.

She was just so -- she was blowing everything up and I held my composure. There was just so much tension, and then when [Jeff Probst] asked, "Roxy, what's one thing you'd change about the tribe?" She said, "Do less work."

Okay, that's no better than my answer. (Laughs) So then he asked me, and I wanted to lighten the mood. So I was like, I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or call anybody out. That's not who I am. So why not throw out a cookie joke, whatever. So I said, "Cookies." Plus, who doesn't like cookies?!

Anyways, it threw Jeff off. It threw everybody off. It was a joke to lighten the mood. And then he really got on me about that. He started clapping at me. He really wanted to get more out of me, but I wasn't having it. I just knew Roxy was going home and I was safe, and it was fine -- fine with me. I kept my composure and I didn't lose control.

Reality TV World: Both Katie Hanson and yourself are college students and pagaent winners, but the show has been identifying you as a student and Katie as a former Miss Delaware. What are your thoughts about that -- was that something that you had any say in or have you and Katie ever talked or joked about how you guys are getting different billing despite your similar backgrounds?

Angie Layton: Yeah, I don't know about that. I wanted them to put me as a model, because that's what I do for my occupation right now, and I'm going to school as well. But I don't know.

I think that's something she talked to them about or something, but I'm okay with that. I mean, former Miss Utah Teen, I mean, I don't want people to see me as a teen anymore, so it's fine. But, you know, it's how they put it. I don't know!

Reality TV World: When I talked to Roxy last week, she pressed the issue that your tribe was just doing too much work around camp, and she basically blamed that on Denise and said she had been setting unrealistic expectations of the amount of work you should be doing. What are your own thoughts on that? Did you agree or disagree with her?

Angie Layton: We had a tribe of five with four [sets] of hands. She didn't do anything. She would sit on the beach. The only thing she ever once did was stir some laundry in a pot. She wanted to be well-rested for the [Immunity] Challenges.

That was her main goal, but then when the challenge came up, she said, "Oh, I can't run two legs because I haven't drank enough water!" Well then, what are you doing? She's not doing anything for the tribe. She sits around camp and she's crying on the beach, and I'm pulling my own weight.

I went twice for my tribe. I stepped up to the plate, and I didn't see her do that. You want to have a strong tribe? You've gotta work together and camplife is really important. You gotta keep that strong and she wasn't a part of that, and I don't know. I don't know what her deal was with that.

Reality TV World: What is your opinion of Denise?

Angie Layton: Denise is a strong player. She is very strong. I actually really like her. She's intelligent. She's a great, strong player. I really like her.

Reality TV World: How were you cast on Survivor: Philippines? How did you end up on the show?

Angie Layton: I just tried out. I sent in a video of me. In my video, I was making a fire, showing them that I can hunt and fish and shoot guns. I wanted to show them I was well-rounded, and I just sent in my video and they liked me! And that's about it.
