It's the kind of behavior one would expect from stars of The Simple Life and Laguna Beach, not Extreme Makeover: Home Edition.

Ty Pennington -- host and lead designer of ABC's Extreme Makeover: Home Edition -- was arrested at 12:35AM PT on Saturday in Los Angeles by traffic officers and was charged with a misdemeanor for driving under the influence, People reported Monday. The 41-year-old was reportedly released at 2:50AM PT on $5,000 bail.
"I made an error in judgment," Pennington said in a statement, according to People. "We all make mistakes; however, this is about accountability. Under no circumstances should anyone consume alcohol while driving. I could have jeopardized the lives of others and I am grateful there was no accident or harm done to anyone. This was my wake-up call."
While he's best known as Home Edition's lead designer, Pennington -- who first came to viewers' attention during four years on TLC's Trading Spaces -- has also been busy in other areas as well. He recently launched his own magazine, Ty Pennington Style; opened Art Design Home Decor in Venice Beach, CA; has a book coming out this spring; works as a spokesman for Sears; and has also teamed-up with Bayer Aspirin for the "Wonders of the Heart Campaign," which recognizes outstanding individuals for their work on a local level. Needless to say, his fan base is far reaching.
"I want to apologize to my fans, ABC Television and my design team for my lapse in judgment and the embarrassment I have caused," said Pennington in the statement, according to People.
