For a second straight week, the two finalists in American Idol 3 -- the "mononamed" Fantasia and Diana DeGarmo -- have the top two singles in sales in both the U.S. and Canada.

Diana DeGarmo's RCA Records single 'Dreams' / 'Don't Cry Out Loud' remains in second place in the U.S. for the second straight week after debuting at #167. With sales of 35,000 units, Diana has now reached the 100,000 mark in sales -- but she still hasn't sold as many units as Fantasia sold in her official release week.
The singles also hold the same positions on the Nielsen SoundScan Canadian Singles Sales chart, just as they did last week.
However, on the July 24 Billboard Hot 100 singles and tracks chart, which incorporates both sales and airplay, both singles sank from last week due to lower sales and lack of airplay. Fantasia's 'I Believe" dropped from 6th place in its second week to 18th place this week, while Diana's 'Dreams' fell from 14th to 33rd.
Also charting on the Nielsen SoundScan U.S. Singles Sales charts this week was the new release from current MTV reality headliner Ashlee Simpson, entitled 'Pieces of Me' on Geffin Records, which spent a second week in third place -- outshining her older sister Jessica Simpson's Sony single 'Take My Breath Away', which managed only sixth place in its eighth week.
And still in the Top 20 of the sales charts are the final two from American Idol 2. Clay Aiken's RCA single 'Solitaire' / 'The Way', holds fifth spot in its 18th week, and Ruben Studdard's J Records remixed single 'What If' featuring Kayne West, bounced back into the top 20 at #17 in its third week. It is beginning to look like Fantasia's status as the better-selling artist of the Idol 3 final two may become as permanent as Clay's status among the Idol 2 final two.
