Fox has announced that former third season winner Fantasia Barrino will perform during the first live results show of American Idol's sixth season on Thursday, February 22 at 8PM ET -- however unfortunately for her, that's probably not the big news, as the network has also announced that she'll make a "special announcement" during her appearance.

Back in December, Idol executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz kicked-off what would become months of speculation by cryptically revealing that the reality competition series' sixth season would feature "a big-event show, sometime in the middle of the season, something that will blow America away." And since then, media outlets and Idol fans across the country have been trying to figure out what she was talking about.
Chief among the theories is the still undetailed sixth season songwriting contest that will allow both signed or unsigned songwriters to write the original tune that millions of Americans will hear when they watch Idol 6's Final 2 finalists perform in May. However Idol executive producer Ken Warwick later teased that a performance show featuring sixth-season finalists performing music from the Beatles' famed songbook could occur, with Paul McCartney or Fab 4 producer George Martin "ideally" serving as mentor -- a theory that seemed to be picking up steam until executive producer Nigel Lythgoe recently revealed his hope to tie an "all-star special" that would feature performances from Idol finalists into the songwriting competition.
Other than Fantasia and her big announcement, two male and two female semifinalists will be the first eliminated from Idol 6 by viewers based on the previous two performance episodes.
