"The album she is working on will show many new sides to her talents as an interpreter and a songwriter, and show everyone just how special she is," Verve Music Group president and CEO Bruce Resnikoff told Billboard.
McPhee was originally signed to American Idol creator Simon Fuller's 19 Recordings Limited and Sony BMG's RCA Records two weeks after she finished second to Hicks during Idol's May 2006 fifth season finale.
Her self-titled RCA debut dropped at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 album sales chart in its February 2007 first week of release, selling 116,000 copies. However, the album's sales slowed significantly in the months that followed, and the album had only sold only 366,000 copies in the U.S. by January 2008, when RCA confirmed it had dropped McPhee.
As of the end of 2008, the album had approximately 375,000 U.S. copies.
Verve Music Group is part of Universal Music Group. In addition to Verve Records, a traditional jazz label, Verve Music Group also includes several other labels, including Verve Forecast, an adult music label; GRP, a contemporary jazz label; and Impulse!, a reissues label.
