Former Dancing with the Stars contestant Noah Galloway and his fiancee Jamie Boyd have called off their engagement.

Only five months after Galloway popped the question to Boyd live on television during a Dancing with the Stars performance show in May, the couple has decided to split.

"After long and careful consideration we've decided to end our engagement. We love each other deeply and we're confident we will remain friends," Galloway, 33, captioned a photo of the pair on Instagram Monday. "While we wanted to share this you, we appreciate the respect of our privacy at this time."

Boyd also posted an Instagram photo of the former couple together at a red carpet appearance.

"We can't thank you enough for all your unwavering love and support. It has meant, and means, so much to us so we wanted to share this with you firsthand," Boyd wrote. "This is a very difficult time and we appreciate y'all for respecting our privacy as we go through this."

Galloway, a war veteran, previously told Us Weekly that Boyd made him a better person, while Boyd expressed how she loved his "beautiful heart" and "strong spirit."

Dancing with the Stars viewers were first introduced to Boyd when she left basic training to surprise him in Week 2 of the Season 20 competition. Boyd, an Army Reserve specialist, showed up still wearing her uniform, and their reunion was nothing short of heartwarming and moving because she surprised him backstage.

Later on in the season, Galloway proposed to Boyd on-camera after dancing with his pro partner Sharna Burgess.

"The moment when you surprised me on the show was one of the most amazing moments I've ever had. And the song [I danced to], 'The Time of My Life,' you give that to me. And I've got to do this here just [because]," Galloway told Boyd as he got down on one knee and co-host Erin Andrews stood next to them in shock. "Will you marry me?"

Boyd immediately started to cry -- as did everyone else nearby and in the audience -- and then embraced Galloway.

"I'm speechless," a thrilled Boyd said.

"Is that a yes?" Andrews asked.

"Heck, yes!" Boyd confirmed, jumping up and down.

Galloway -- who lost his two left limbs in 2005 from a bomb blast in Iraq -- finished Dancing with the Stars in third place. He has three young children from two previous marriages.
