Kim Stolz, a 23-year-old New Yorker who was a finalist on the fifth season of "America's Next Top Model," is finding her voice as the host of MTV's campus channel.
A recent Wesleyan University graduate, Stolz had considered law school and worked at a law firm for several months before sending in her audition tape.
"The Freshman" launched in January 2004, is available on 730 college campuses and on mtvu.com. The show has 10 times more viewers since Stolz began in mid-July, the newspaper said.
Because mtvU.com wants to focus on new musicians, its executives wanted somebody knowledgeable. Stolz learned about popular music as a child from her father, then developed her own interests in independent rock and electro clash, the Times reported. She said she has 13,000 tracks on her iPod.
She "knows more about music than most people I know," mtvU General Manager Stephen Friedman told the Times."People who love music should want to share it, and that's what I want to do," Stolz said.
