Plitt was hit when he was on the train tracks at Front Street and, according to Sgt. Scott Meadows from the Burbank Police Department, the death "appears to be an accident."
"It does not appear to be a suicide," Sgt. Meadows told the magazine in a statement. "A camera was seized as evidence but it's unclear who it belongs to -- the victim or a witness. From the sound of it, he was filming something, but I can tell you that no filming permit had been issued."
USA Today reported that Plitt, a former U.S. Army Ranger, had previously shot workout videos on railroad tracks and he was accompanied by two other men on the day of his death.
In addition to having starred on Bravo's Work Out, Plitt was also set to appear on the new reality show Friends to Lovers, which premiered January 12 on the network.
"This is a terrible tragedy. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with Greg's family and friends," a Bravo representative told People.
Bravo executive Andy Cohen also reacted to the news of Plitt's passing on Twitter Sunday.
"We couldn't take our eyes off Greg Plitt after we cast him on Work Out... He was nice as he was beautiful. Seemed invincible, like Superman," Cohen tweeted.
Plitt's Friends to Lovers co-star Charley Cullen Walters weighed-in on the accident as well.
"The whole cast is shaken up as we just had our premiere party the other night and were so excited about Greg and Melanie joining the show mid-season," Walters told Us Weekly. "I hope people still get to know what a great guy he was via those episodes and his fitness legacy."
