Fox has announced that American Idol's ninth-season auditions will kick-off on Sunday, June 14 at Gillette Stadium in the Boston, MA area.

American Idol's ninth season will use the same 16 to 28 years old age range that the reality competition has used since its fourth season. (Prior to Idol's fourth season, age 26 had been the maximum age.)
More specifically, all contestants must be between 16 and 28 years old as of June 12, 2009 -- meaning that all applicants must be born on or between July 13, 1980 and June 12, 1993 in order to be eligible to participate.
Besides meeting the competition's age requirements, applicants must also be eligible to work in the United States.
