The Chicago Sun's Phil Rosenthal reports that FOX's 'American Idol: The Search for a Superstar' promises to make someone a music industry star by staging a talent contest and awarding the winner a recording and management contract.

Yet the rules for its auditions, which candidates were to be judged on, said, in all caps and bold type: "NO WEAPONS OR NON-PRESCRIPTION CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES WILL BE PERMITTED AT ANY AUDITION."

Now how exactly does a person prove that he or she belongs in today's recording industry without demonstrating an ability to handle weapons or non-prescription controlled substances?

'Idol' premieres on FOX on Tuesday June 11th at 8:30PM EST with a 90 minute episode. A conventional hour long second episode follows Wednesday June 12th at 9PM EST.
