Fox Reality has announced that has ordered a second edition of Solitary, the fledging network's original series in which quitters never win.

Like the show's first season, Solitary 2.0's contestants will be placed in individual "laboratory pods," Fox Reality's version of solitary confinement, and denied interaction with any other people. The only voice they will hear during the filming will be "Val," an "omniscient, sarcastic taskmaster" who controls every aspect of what's taking place in each participant's "pod," including sleep, sound, temperature and light. Once in their pods, the contestants -- who will also be stripped of their names and only referred to by an assigned number -- will begin competing for the measly $50,000 grand prize that will be awarded to the person who tolerates Val's abuse the longest (all of the contestants are free to quit the competition at any time).
However unlike the show's season, Fox Reality promises "far more grueling psychological tests" and "even tougher" physical treatments for Solitary 2.0.
"Solitary entered into uncharted territory in the reality world," said David Lyle, COO and general manager of Fox Reality. "Solitary 2.0 will push the limits of human tolerance even further and allow our viewers to go along for the ride while, luckily for them, watching comfortably from their homes."
Fox Reality is currently holding a two-week national casting call for Solitary 2.0, seeking nine "fearless people to take on the greatest mental and physical challenge of their lives." Addition casting information is available on foxreality.com. Solitary 2.0 is tentatively scheduled to premiere in August 2007.
Solitary 2.0 is executive produced and co-created by Emmy Award-winner Andrew Golder (Identity, World Series of Blackjack, Win Ben Steins Money), as well as Lincoln Hiatt (Unan1mous).
