Fox has announced The Moment of Truth, a new game show that will quiz contestants on personal questions and use a lie detector to determine if they're telling the truth, will premiere on Wednesday, January 23 at 9PM ET/PT.

Fox originally announced it had ordered The Moment of the Truth back in August under the working title of Nothing But the Truth.  The series is based on a Colombian game show that has spawned similar series in 23 additional countries, including Spain, Brazil, Germany, France, Italy and the U.K.

Despite its high ratings and international spinoffs, the show's original Colombian edition -- which featured a maximum prize of $50,000 -- was recently canceled after a contestant won $25,000 by admitting she had hired someone to kill her husband.

"The crime couldn't be carried out because the hit man tipped off my husband and he ran away forever -- God save me," the contestant, a Colombian woman named Rosa Maria Solano, said after her revelation, according to The Associated Press.

Fox plans to air The Moment of Truth's first few episodes on Wednesdays at 9PM ET/PT after American Idol's non-supersized initial seventh-season episodes.  After that, the game show will move into its regular Wednesdays at 8PM ET/PT time period beginning March 12, where it will serve as a lead-in for Idol's results show broadcasts.

Contestants competing on The Moment of Truth will be hooked-up to a lie detector and asked to answer 21 questions without fibbing for the chance to win the $500,000 grand prize.  Not surprisingly, the questions' subject matter grows more difficult with each correct answer given and -- as friends and family members watch from the studio audience -- owning up to the truth becomes harder.

Sample questions contestants could be asked include have you ever lied to get a job; do you like your mother-in-law; do you really care about starving children in Africa; have you ever stolen anything from work; and have you ever cheated on your spouse.

Former Joe Millionaire and Temptation Island host Mark L. Wahlberg -- not to be confused with actor and former Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch member Mark Wahlberg -- will serve as the host for The Moment of Truth.

The Moment of Truth is being produced by Lighthearted Entertainment, Inc.  Howard Schultz, the show's creator, and Michael Maddocks will serve as its executive producers.
