Hulu released two clips from the next episode of Futurama, "How the West Was 1010001." The third episode of the Hulu revival premieres Monday.
In the episode, the Planet Express gang visit Doge City, a cryptocurrency mining town modeled after a Wild West gold rush town. The joke is that in the year 2023, cryptocurrency is a literal western.
The title itself is a parody of both the film How the West Was Won and binary code of ones and zeroes.
In the first clip, Dr. Zoidberg (voice of Billy West) takes over for a psychiatrist gunned down by a robot outlaw.
In the second clip, from earlier in the episode, Fry, Prof. Farnsworth (both West), Leela (Katey Sagal), the robot Bender (John DiMaggio), Amy (Lauren Tom), Hermes (Phil LaMarr) and Zoidberg arrive at Doge City by wagon.
"How the West Was 1010001" was one of the six episodes Hulu provided for UPI's review of the Futurama revival. The episode fit into the show's satire, using the distant future to parody modern concepts.
The western episode also allowed Futurama to do a literal space western in homage to Star Trek.
Hulu is the third revival of Futurama after it was cancelled on Fox after five seasons. Futurama returned as a series of four straight to video movies, which then aired on Comedy Central followed by newly produced seasons.
New episodes of Futurama premiere Mondays on Hulu.
