Geoffrey Paschel, a 41-year-old from Knoxville, TN, and Varya Malina, a 30-year-old from Ryazan, Russia, met in person in Russia for the first time following a five-month, long-distance romance that began on an international dating website.

Geoffrey -- a landlord who raises two adults boys and also has a four-year-old son Cayvan from two previous relationships -- said it was hard to trust women since he had four failed marriages, but Varya gave him hope she would complete his heart, especially after the loss of his newborn son, Kazhem.

Geoffrey's family and friends didn't want to see him rushing into another relationship, but he said he was crazy about Varya and wanted to see their romance through.

Once the pair finally met face to face in the airport in Moscow, Geoffrey gushed, "It was like an angel was standing there. She is real and it's not something I had just built up in my head. She's just as beautiful as I thought she was. She is everything and more."

Geoffrey asked Varya how she'd feel about potentially moving to Tennessee if things worked out between them. Varya said she wanted to move to America but would prefer living in a big city like New York City.

Sparks flew and the couple definitely discovered they had chemistry, but Geoffrey questioned Varya's intentions since it seemed she really wanted to move to the United States. Geoffrey didn't want to be her meal ticket; he wanted to make sure she loved him.

Varya also confessed to having been in contact with another American man prior to Geoffrey's arrival in Russia, which infuriated Geoffrey and resulted in him lashing out in front of her friends.

"You told me I was the only American you spoke to. You straight up lied to me," Geoffrey yelled at the table.

Geoffrey told the cameras he was ready to get out of Russia, but Varya explained, "If I just wanted to go to America, I could have done that with that guy, but I am searching for real love, not just an American."

Geoffrey decided to trust Varya and then he met her mother and brother, both of whom didn't really approve of the relationship after they discovered Geoffrey had once gone to jail for dealing drugs.

"To hell with this fairytale. I had a feeling something wasn't right... This is exactly what I was afraid of," Larissa told her daughter in Russian, before Varya's brother Sergey insisted, "People don't change."

Varya ultimately chose to stay in the relationship, but she rejected Geoffrey's marriage proposal before he left her country.

Geoffrey therefore returned to America feeling "defeated" and "hurt" and tried to move on with another woman, his best friend Mary, who had romantic feelings for him for a while.

While Geoffrey started falling for Mary and could picture a future with her, he said Varya continued to text and message him.

Suddenly, Varya was shown arriving in the United States on a tourist visa for a two-week stay. Varya said she missed Geoffrey and still cared about him, adding, "I am here for Geoffrey; I love him a lot."

Geoffrey slowly let Varya back into his heart, and after she met his adult sons in college, Geoffrey popped the question one more time during a hike -- and this time, Varya said, "Yes."

After getting engaged, Varya had to leave the United States, and Geoffrey complained he didn't want to be away from his fiancee while they waited eight months to potentially a year for a K-1 visa to be approved.

Geoffrey was not invited to 90 Day Fiance: Before the 90 Days' Season 4 cast Tell-All reunion after reports surfaced he was facing several criminal charges, including kidnapping and assault, for a June 2019 domestic-violence incident involving his then live-in girlfriend. 

Varya reportedly also didn't show up because she couldn't appear with Geoffrey.

Fans were therefore left with many questions about the status of their relationship, and Geoffrey and Varya remained tight-lipped about where they stood.

In June 2020, Geoffrey addressed his engagement in an Instagram Live session and said, "You guys want the tea. The tea is, I am not telling you if I'm with Varya and I'm not telling you if I'm with Mary."

"I'm not telling you if I'm with [neither of them]. I am just putting it out there to be patient, please. There are bigger plans in the works that's going to be a whole lot beautifuler... This is not my choice about not telling you my situation right now."

Geoffrey made it known, however, Varya was supportive of him at the time and he couldn't say anything about her because "bigger things are coming."

Based on the details of the charges Geoffrey faced from a June 2019 incident with his then live-in girlfriend, it seemed he and Varya were no longer together.

Since Geoffrey was living with another girlfriend in June 2019 -- which is believed to be after he returned from visiting Varya overseas -- it is assumed his romance with Varya must have ended by then.

However, Varya reportedly subsequently hinted on Instagram a "surprise" was coming, similar to the sentiments Geoffrey has made about there being a bigger picture and a good reason for their relationship secrecy.

Geoffrey made it seem like he and Varya might still be dating, or are at least on good terms, when he tricked her into making him a Cameo video for Father's Day.

Geoffrey apparently wrote down sweet things for Varya to say about the random fan she believed she was making the Cameo for.

"I trolled her [by] having her make a cameo for me and I put that in it for her to say. She didn't know the cameo was for me. :)" Geoffrey wrote to one of his followers on Instagram in late June.

Geoffrey's trial took place in October 2021 and ended with the 90 Day Fiance alum being found guilty of aggravated kidnapping, domestic violence and interference with an emergency call.

In February 2022, Geoffrey was sentenced to 18 years in prison without the possibility of parole.
