Trish Beaudet became the seventh finalist eliminated from HGTV Design Star's third season during last night's broadcast of the reality competition series.

"It's very disappointing, but I worked my butt off," said the 37-year-old from Shelby Township, MI after her ouster was revealed.

Last night's HGTV Design Star third-season broadcast began with the three remaining finalists -- Trish; Jennifer Bertrand, a 33-year-old from Olathe, KS; and Matt Locke, a 38-year-old from Los Angeles, CA -- each learning they'd be traveling to a family member's home for their penultimate challenge.

Each finalist would have a budget of $10,000 and a total of 26 hours to redesign a yet-to-be-revealed room in the family member's home.  In addition, each finalist would have the assistance of a carpenter.

HGTV Design Star host Clive Pearse then revealed Jen would be traveling to her sister's house in Sioux City, IA; Matt would be going to his parent's house in Colorado Springs, CO; and Trish traveling to her parent's house in Macomb, MI.

Matt's parents chose for him to makeover their craft/game room; Trish's parents asked for a makeover in their living room; and Jen's sister asked for her living and dining areas to be redone.

"You're doing something for your family and you're one step away from your dream," said Jen.  "So I'm just gonna make it happen and hope my heart won't bust out of my chest."

Matt said his mom was "very vocal" about the design she wanted and he decided to use elegant and functional design solutions that including a fake wall, durable furniture and an interchangeable game table.

Trish's task was a bit more challenging as she had to design around the medical needs of her father, which resulted in the need for a recliner.  In addition, Trish also got short-changed with her carpenter -- who arrived with only a screwdriver and boasted he'd only been a carpenter for two weeks.  However he ended up getting his act together and finishing Trish's design.

Jen decided to attack her sister's living and dining area by adding one of her signature painted murals and also made a last-minute decision to carpet the floor.

Once the challenge was complete, the three remaining finalists then reconvened in Nashville for the judging panel, where they'd be critiqued by former Trading Spaces interior designer and current Deserving Design host Vern Yip; designer and author Cynthia Rowley; and In Style magazine executive editor Martha McCully.
Martha thought Jen's design made the room "warmer" than it was before and said her hosting came from "the point of view of the viewer."  Vern added Jen "really thought about" her design decision but he wished she had stuck with the wood floors and simply added rugs.  He also warned her to beware the murals since she could be labeled a "one-trick pony."  However Cynthia loved the murals.

"It clearly fits into the environment in Sioux City too," said Cynthia about Jen's mural.

Vern thought Matt's design had an "architectural character" to it and called the fake wall to hide the kiln "really smart."  Martha was critical of the choice of furniture, calling it "heavy and overpowering."  Cynthia said Matt did a "great job" hosting and thought it looked "effortless."

Vern said Trish showed her skills as a designer by "increasing the vertical plain" with the fireplace, and he commended her for it. 

"For me, it's a little text book design," commented Cynthia.  "It's very traditional."

The judges then deliberated their decision before Clive revealed Trish was given the boot.

HGTV Design Star's penultimate third-season episode will air on Sunday, July 27 at 9PM ET/PT, with Matt and Jen traveling to New Orleans to compete in their final design challenge.  Immediately following next Sunday night's episode, home viewers will be able to vote for either Matt or Jen to determine the winner.

HGTV Design Star's third-season finale will then air Sunday, August 3 at 9PM ET/PT, with either Matt or Jen taking home the grand prize of his or her own show on HGTV.
