HGTV has announced it has renewed HGTV Design Star, the reality competition that gives its winning designer their own HGTV television show, and begun casting for the show's third season.

"Everyone thinks they have what it takes to be an HGTV Design Star, so this is the chance for potential finalists to quit armchair quarterbacking and get in the game," said James Bolosh, HGTV's vice president of event programming. "HGTV Design Star is a tough competition and the designer who is able showcase their talent and prove that they have star quality will see their dream of hosting their own HGTV show come true. We're one reality competition that truly delivers on the promise to make someone a household name."
David Bromstad won HGTV Design Star's first season -- which marked the network's first foray into the reality competition show genre -- and his Color Splash with David Bromstad series premiered on March 19.
HGTV Design Star's second season premiered in July and only two finalists remain in the running for the show's grand prize. Kim Myles, a 33-year-old interior designer from New York City, and Todd Davis, a 34-year-old landscape architect from San Francisco, CA, will both compete in the final "Design Showdown," which will air Sunday, September 9 at 9PM ET/PT on HGTV.
After the broadcast of the showdown, home viewers can vote to determine which of the two remaining finalists will receive their own HGTV show, which will be awarded during the HGTV Design Star 2 finale on Sunday, September 16 at 9PM ET/PT.
HGTV Design Star's third season is expected to premiere next summer.
