A judge in the Bahamas has prohibited Howard K. Stern from taking the late Anna Nicole Smith's daughter out of the country.
In filing the request, Smith's mother Vergie Arthur said she feared for the safety of 5-month-old Dannielynn as long as she remained with Stern, the New York Daily News said Wednesday.
Justice Stephen Isaacs granted Arthur's request for an injunction preventing Stern, listed as the child's father on the birth certificate, from taking her out of the Bahamas.
Larry Birkhead, a California photographer, also claims to be the child's father and filed a paternity suit in California. A hearing on that matter is scheduled for next Tuesday.
Arthur, who said she believes the father is Birkhead, told the Daily News, "I'd like to see the baby. I'd like to see Larry have the child."
Arthur did not explain her concern. A friend said the woman blamed Stern for the deaths of Smith and Smith's son, Daniel.
Daniel Smith died Sept. 10 while visiting his mother in a Nassau hospital after the baby was born.
Anna Nicole Smith died Feb. 8 in a Hollywood, Fla., hospital where she was taken after being found unresponsive in her hotel room.
