Simon Cowell's reported expectant father news with gal pal Lauren Silverman is allegedly the result of an adulterous affair that's responsible for the breakup of her marriage to Andrew Silverman, Simon's former close friend.

While yesterday's initial Us Weekly report that Lauren, a 36-year-old New York socialite, is 10 weeks pregnant with Simon's baby claimed she and her husband had been unhappy and estranged for some time before she began her relationship with Simon, Andrew is alleging otherwise.

In his divorce filing, Andrew cites adultery as the reason his marriage to Lauren is ending and names Simon a co-respondent, The New York Post reported Thursday.

"It is an unbelievable story of betrayal. It is a sad story and a tragic story," Andrew's brother Alexander told The Post.

"[The Silvermans] weren't estranged. The suggestion that she was an estranged wife who fell into another man's arms is not the case," a friend of Lauren's added.

Andrew, 37, reportedly quietly filed for a fault divorce with the allegations two weeks ago in Manhattan Supreme Court, which is unusual given New York is a no-fault divorce state. Simon, 53, may therefore eventually be required to testify and reportedly reveal his finances and the details of his affair with Lauren.

"It's really a signal to the spouse who cheated that the wronged spouse is very angry and that it's going to be a very nasty, scorched-earth, high-profile litigation," divorce attorney Martha Cohen Stine told The Post.

"It's very nasty," added matrimonial attorney William Zabel. "I assume it's to embarrass them and get them to settle."

Simon and Lauren have reportedly hired the legal team of Bernard Clair and Robert S. Cohen to defend them.

Simon and Lauren allegedly met seven years ago while on vacation in Barbados and Lauren subsequently introduced The X Factor creator and judge to Andrew. The threesome allegedly got along great and subsequently double-dated with Simon's ex-girlfriend Terri Seymour and then ex-fiancee Mezhgan Hussainy.

According to another friend of Lauren's, Simon and Lauren's affair was reportedly already taking place when Mezhgan was still in the picture.

In addition, The Post is claiming Lauren's friends categorize her as money-hungry and believe the pregnancy wasn't an accident.

"She is a total gold digger," one pal said.

Another pal added, "The pregnancy was by design."

Lauren and Andrew wed in their mid-20s, and a mutual acquaintance of the couple told the newspaper, "I always found her very pretty, but I found them to be very pretentious. And I always wondered why she married him, and I figured it was for money."

Andrew, who works for his family's real-estate development company, reportedly just recently upgraded Lauren's engagement ring with a 10-karat diamond -- signifying how he had been oblivious to his wife's involvement with Simon.

Oddly enough, many of Lauren and Simon's friends and family are allegedly "thrilled" and "overjoyed" about the couple having a baby on the way.
