People reported Thursday that Isbell, 45, filed for divorce from Shires, 41, on Dec. 15, two months before the pair's 11th wedding anniversary.

Rolling Stone confirmed the news.

Isbell and Shires married in February 2013 and have an 8-year-old daughter, Mercy.

Isbell plays guitar for Shires' country music supergroup, The Highwomen, while Shires plays fiddle and performs as a backup singer for Isbell's band, the 400 Unit.

The pair have been open about challenges in their marriage, with Isbell sharing in a 2020 interview with The New York Times how pressures during the making of his album Reunion caused him to push people away, including Shires.

"At one point, I said, 'It'd be easier if somebody had cheated.' Then we could say, 'You did this,' or 'I did this,' and 'Somebody needs to be real sorry,'" Isbell said. "But it was more like, 'We don't know each other right now. We're not able to speak the same language."

In addition, the 2023 documentary Running With Our Eyes Closed featured a scene where Shires read an e-mail she sent Isbell about possibly seeking marriage counseling.
