Jessica Sanchez says the only reason she had wanted to win American Idol was to break the competition's current male-winner streak and prove a girl can still win.

"I think my only disappointment would be that. The only reason I would've really wanted to win was just to break that whole guy reign and just have a girl win it for once," Sanchez told Reality TV World during a Thursday conference call with reporters.
Sanchez was defeated by Phillip Phillips for American Idol's eleventh-season title, extending the competition's male domination to five male champions in a row. While the show hasn't had a female winner since Jordin Sparks in 2006, Sanchez said she didn't even care if she was crowned champion -- she just wanted a girl in general to come out ahead.
"It didn't even have to be me. It could've been [Hollie Cavanagh] or [Skylar Laine], whatever. I mean, but I'm so proud of Phillip and I'm so happy it was him. He's so talented," the 16-year-old singer from San Diego, CA, explained.
When asked if she believes American Idol can have a female winner ever again given its recent track record, Sanchez told Reality TV World she has "no idea."
