Joan Rivers' daughter Melissa Rivers is finally suing Yorkville Endoscopy Center where the former Fashion Police host went into cardiac arrest after a routine throat procedure on her vocal cords, which ultimately led to her death.

According to a report issued in November by investigators for the Federal Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, there were multiple violations and irregularities at the time of Joan's procedure such as doctors failing to notice her deteriorating vital signs for at least 15 minutes before she went into cardiac arrest.
The clinic's anesthesiologist also marked down the wrong amount of anesthetic used on Joan on the medical record, the clinic's medical director Dr. Lawrence Cohen took photos of an unconscious Joan on the operating table while the comedian's personal doctor Gwen Korovin was working on her, and Joan's body weight was never recorded to administer the proper amount of sedation, The New York Times reported.
One week after the procedure, Joan died on September 4 at the age of 81 at Mount Sinai hospital when Melissa took her off life support.
"What ultimately guided me was my unwavering belief that no family should ever have to go through what my mother, [my son] Cooper and I have been through," Melissa said in the statement. "The level of medical mismanagement, incompetency, disrespect, and outrageous behavior is shocking and frankly, almost incomprehensible."
Melissa reportedly continued, "Not only did my mother deserve better, every patient deserves better. It is my goal to make sure that this kind of horrific medical treatment never happens to anyone again."
