Joe Amabile and Serena Pitt felt an immediate connection when they met on Bachelor in Paradise's seventh season after coupling up in the first few days of filming.
Serena never let the fact Joe's ex-girlfriend of nearly two years, Kendall Long, was on the beach get in the way of her feelings for the former grocery store owner. Serena kept her eye on the prize, avoided jealousy, and trusted Joe as Kendall sought closure.
Joe got down on one knee and presented Serena with a two-carat, cushion-cut diamond ring on the finale that aired in October 2021.
"We followed our hearts and will just figure out the other stuff later," Joe said after popping the question.
While walking the red carpet at the People's Choice Awards in December 2021, Joe gushed about how he and Serena would probably never get out of the honeymoon phase.
"Yeah, we're really riding the honeymoon phase long and hard right now," Serena added, "and it's going really good."
Joe also confirmed he and Serena "are moving in together soon" and "everything couldn't be going any better."
But the pair still hadn't decided on a city in which to put down roots and live, at least for the near future.
"New York City [is one option]," Joe revealed, "or we're going to do Chicago and Toronto and just go back and forth."
Joe said he and Serena weren't rushing down the aisle, and he shared with Us Weekly how they didn't intend to start wedding planning until they "tackle" their living arrangement but it's nice to have a lot of support from family, friends and Bachelor Nation.
However in October 2022, Joe and Serena shocked Bachelor Nation by announcing they had tied the knot at a courthouse in New York.
"JUST MARRIED !!" the new spouses captioned a video of their first kiss as husband and wife on October 27 on Instagram.
"We are still having a wedding this September [in 2023] but who doesn't want to get married twice!"
In the Instagram video, Serena and Joe were pronounced married by the state of New York, and Serena giggled with excitement and joy as she held Joe's hands.
The video concluded with the couple kissing in front of an officiant, and Serena and Joe's witness, Bachelor in Paradise alum Natasha Parker, could be heard cheering behind the camera.
