Jon Gosselin has publicly confirmed he is not romantically involved with Kate Major and claims that Hailey Glassman is the one who stole his heart following his estranged wife Kate's divorce filing earlier this summer.

"I wasn't dating Kate Major," said Gosselin in In Touch Weekly's August 17 issue.

"We were just hanging out.  It was a business thing.  At first, Hailey was kind of fed up, but then she saw it as nothing."

The 26-year-old Major was assigned to cover Gosselin as a Star magazine reporter, and she subsequently claimed she was dating the 32-year-old Jon & Kate Plus 8 star in a July statement after the two were photographed having dinner together in New York City and spending time at the Hamptons home of Michael Lohan.

"I didn't mean it to happen, it just did," Major said in the statement. "I went to do a story on Jon and ended up falling for him."

Major subsequently resigned from Star, citing the relationship as a conflict of interest -- but Gosselin claims there was never any relationship to begin with.

"I think she fell for me, but I knew my heart was with Hailey," Gosselin told In Touch.

"I could just tell by [Major's] body language and closeness.  I'm just like, 'Okay, that's great.' I try to be nice to everyone, and I didn't want to lead anyone on.  Hailey hasn't asked me to stop being friends with her, though."

Gosselin said he loves Glassman "to death" and described her as "the female version of me."

"She is the polar opposite of Kate.  It's really different.  I feel good about myself and people see my good qualities.  I'm not being put down.  If I want to go out with my friends, Hailey says, 'Oh, go out,'" Gosselin told In Touch.

"Sometimes I ask Hailey permission, like I used to do with Kate, and she says, 'You don't have to ask permission.'  I was used to living like that, and now it's like a breath of fresh air.  You can have a balanced relationship but also spend time with your friends."

However Gosselin also reiterated his previous comments that he's unsure whether wedding bells are in the couple's future.

"There is always the kids factor.  I'm not asking her to be my kids' stepmom," he told In Touch.  "I am asking her to love me for who I am.  The kids have a mother, and that's Kate.  I'm not looking for her to replace that."

Gosselin said he and Glassman have been keeping a low profile at her request -- presumably due to the intense (and often negative) media coverage that followed the couple when they were first spotted together several weeks ago in France.

"We will definitely be together," he told In Touch.  "We will continue our relationship and move on."
