Robert Van Winkle, the ex-rapper and reality TV star known as Vanilla Ice, was put on supervised release without bond Friday following his arrest in Florida.
Van Winkle, 40, was charged with domestic battery Thursday after an alleged confrontation with his wife at their home.
When he appeared in court Friday he was ordered to have no in-person contact with his wife, the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office told the South Florida Sun-Sentinel.
Judge Nancy Perez said Van Winkle can speak to his wife by phone and visit his two daughters, but only if he is accompanied by neighbor Frank Morales.
Perez also said Van Winkle can take police with him to the house to get his personal belongings, but stated he must live apart from his wife until the courts make a final decision, the Sun-Sentinel said.
Van Winkle told the deputy who arrived at the scene that he and his wife had been arguing since Wednesday, but the performer denied pushing her as she had claimed.
Van Winkle was previously placed on a year's probation in 2001 after he pleaded no contest to domestic violence, the newspaper said.
