Julianne Hough opened up about how she used to hold back in relationships during an interview for the July issue of Redbook magazine.
The 25-year-old "Dancing with the Stars" alum first explained that there was nothing wrong or right with any of her old romances.
"I had one foot out because I didn't want to get hurt. And I didn't say what was on my mind because I didn't want to ruffle any feathers," she said. "I needed to be perfect."
Hough added that she had something of an epiphany after dating "American Idol" host Ryan Seacrest while attending a seminar about "creating your own destiny" last November.
"I learned so much about myself and why my relationships didn't work that by the end I was on a high. I was seeing a couple people, but immediately [pretends to text guys], 'You are nice, but this is going nowhere.' The next day my 'Curve' [movie] costar introduced [me to Brooks Laich]. It couldn't have been a better time. We've been open and honest from day one."
Hough has been dating the NHL star since December and says she's no longer "holding anything back."
"I'd rather get my heart broken than never know what it is to be completely, madly in love," she added. "If I had been this open in my last relationship, who knows?"
Hough famously dated Seacrest from April 2010 to March 2013.
She is currently starring in a traveling dancing tour called "Move" alongside her brother Derek Hough.
