Katharine McPhee's former Smash director Michael Morris, whom she was recently caught making out with in public, reportedly wants nothing more than to save his marriage after a meaningless fling.

"He is devastated he has caused so much hurt," a source told Life & Style. "He doesn't want to throw his perfect family away for the sake of a fling with someone who didn't mean anything to him."
McCormack is also reportedly "beyond furious and absolutely devastated," and she kicked Morris out of their home last week when she found out about the affair.
"[Michael] has agreed to stay at a friend's until Mary is ready to talk," added the source.
Despite Morris' alleged desperation to fix their relationship, an insider recently told the magazine McCormack has no desire to try to put the pieces back together.
"It's incredibly sad. He wants to keep the family together, but as far as Mary is concerned, it's over. There's no going back. Mary only found out this week about the affair after he confessed everything to her," the insider told Life & Style late last week.
"She had no idea anything had been going on. The last thing she ever thought was that he was seeing another woman... He really wants to make it work between them and try and save the marriage. But at the moment, Mary wants to split up with him."
McPhee -- a 29-year-old actress and former fifth-season American Idol runner-up -- is also reportedly "so embarrassed" about the scandal, as she's still technically married to Nick Cokas, 47, whom she tied the knot with in 2008 but has allegedly been separated from for about six months now.
Although McPhee reportedly means nothing to Morris, "Kat was smitten with Michael," a friend of the singer told the magazine.
Morris and McCormack wed in July 2003. Their three children together are all under the age of 10, with the youngest being two-years-old and the eldest nine.
McCormack starred in USA's In Plain Sight and NBC's Welcome to the Family, which was recently pulled off the air after only three weeks due to low ratings.
McPhee competed on American Idol in 2006 and lost to fifth-season winner Taylor Hicks. She made her acting debut in 2008 in The House Bunny, a comedy film starring Anna Faris.
