"Cancer does not discriminate," Pickler said in a statement released on her Facebook page.
Pickler and her childhood friend, whom the country singer calls her "sister," both shaved their long blonde locks in attempt to take a stand against cancer. The pair hope their bonding moment, which was filmed for public viewing, will bring awareness to the importance of early breast cancer detection.
"If this compels even one person to change their mentality toward waiting until the age of 40 for their mammogram, then it will be worth it," added Miller.
Miller recently underwent a double mastectomy, a surgical operation to remove both her breasts, in attempt to beat the cancer. Her tumor had fortunately been detected in its early stage when the 36-year-old mother of two had been persistent in requesting a mammogram from her doctor.
