Kelly Clarkson insists she did not take her job as the key adviser for The Voice's Season 13 "Knockout Rounds" lightly.

The Knockout Rounds will begin airing on Monday, October 30, and Kelly, the first-ever American Idol winner, will be shown mentoring the contestants on Blake Shelton, Adam Levine, Miley Cyrus, and Jennifer Hudson's teams.

When describing her coaching style, Kelly said she's a mix of Simon Cowell -- who is known for being brutally honest and sometimes a bit harsh -- and Blake, who is pretty much a country-singing teddy bear.

"I feel like I'm a mix of Simon and Blake. I'm constructive because it would be impossible for me not to be, if you know my mother," Kelly told Us Weekly.

"I grew up with constructive criticism. And it made me a better human... I'm just saying I think that I'm incapable of not giving criticism constructively. So I think that's like Simon."

Kelly, 35, joked that she's going to need "a cape" for her role as a "mega mentor" on NBC's The Voice this season.

And next season, Kelly will be joining the reality singing competition as one of the four regular coaches. She'll be sitting in a big red chair for Season 14 alongside Blake, Adam, and Alicia Keys.

Kelly said she believes she'll take after Blake in the way he "always really invests in his artists."

"I love [it]... Like he really goes the extra mile after the show, even if they don't win," Kelly explained to Us. "He really supports them and gets them other record deals and gets things moving. That really says a lot about his character. I hope I'm like that."

Kelly was already a member of The Voice family prior to this year. In 2015, she performed with Koryn Hawthorne and Meghan Linsey on the Season 8 finale, and in December 2016, Kelly sang a duet with Billy Gilman on the Hamilton song "It's Quiet Uptown."

Kelly discussed joining the show for its Spring 2018 edition as a coach in May.

"I'm so excited to join The Voice at NBC," Kelly said in a press release at the time.

"We've gone back and forth about a role as a coach for years, but the timing hasn't been right until now. I have always loved appearing on the show as an adviser or performer and established an amazing relationship with the network during my Christmas special."

The artist added, "I can't wait to turn my chair and see the faces of up-and-coming artists and provide them with the help and support they've needed to break into the industry. Watch out, Shelton, I'm comin' to win!"

NBC's announcement of Kelly's starring role on The Voice came only a couple of days after reports surfaced in May she was ABC's top choice to sit on the judging panel for the network's American Idol revival, which is scheduled to debut next year.
