Kelly Osbourne has revealed that she has the BRCA1 gene, which greatly increases a woman's change of getting breast or ovarian cancer.

"I actually do have the cancer gene," the 30-year-old told the hosts of "The Talk" on Tuesday. "My mom made all of us get tested after she found out that she had it and got her double mastectomy."

Osbourne praised actress Angelina Jolie, who wrote Monday in a New York Times op-ed that she chose to have her ovaries and fallopian tubes removed. Jolie, who also has the BRCA1 gene, had a double mastectomy in 2013.

"It's something I applaud Angelina for because she's bringing attention to this, and people are now going to go out and get tested for it," Osbourne said.

Osbourne said she also plans to have preventive surgery.

"I know that one day I will eventually have to do it too because if I have children, I want to be there to bring them up. I want to be there to support them in every way I can," she said.

Jolie, 39, wrote Monday that the surgery forced her body into menopause.

"I feel deeply for women for whom this moment comes very early in life, before they have had their children. Their situation is far harder than mine," she wrote.

Osbourne's mother, Sharon, is a colon cancer survivor. She underwent a preventive double mastectomy in 2012.
