Kim Kardashian has offered up her thoughts on mother Kris Jenner and stepfather Bruce Jenner's separation after 22 years of marriage.

"It wasn't a surprise actually," the 33-year-old Keeping Up with the Kardashians star said during a Thursday night appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live.

"They have kind of been living like friends for a really long time. So I just feel like, you know, you want your parents to be happy. I think it was more awkward for them to live together and just not sleep in the same room for so long."

Kris, a 57-year-old talk show host who manages her family's careers, and Bruce, a 64-year-old former Olympian, announced in early October of last year they had decided to split. The couple wed in April 1991, which was only a month after Kris got divorced from the late Robert Kardashian.

After Kris and Bruce went their separate ways, the pair seemed to get along better than ever.

"Yeah, I think it's like the space away has just gotten them back to that really good 'friend place,' and they just realize they're better as friends. So, I think they're just really mature about it," Kardashian told Jimmy Kimmel.

"And I guess my theory -- more lately as I've gone through experiences -- is just that life is so short and you should just be happy. So I support them and everyone else in my family that's going through something."

Kris and Bruce have two daughters together -- Kendall Jenner, 18, and Kylie Jenner, 16.

Bruce is also a stepdad to Kris' son Rob Kardashian, 26, and her girls Kourtney Kardashian, 34, and Khloe Kardashian, 29, in addition to Kim.

Bruce was previously married to Linda Thompson and Chrystie Crownover. He also has two sons, Brandon Jenner, 32, and Brody Jenner, 30, whom he had with Thompson.
