Kim Richards is reportedly doing well and staying sober.
The 51-year-old reality star's younger sister, Kyle Richards, opened up about her sibling in an interview for People magazine's Dec. 21 issue.
The 46-year-old television personality is optimistic about her sister's progress, despite relapses in the past.
"I spoke to Kim the other day and she was confident and strong," "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills" star shared. "I was like, 'Yes! Let's keep you here.' There are no guarantees, but I'm excited and hopeful."
"There are no guarantees for someone who is an alcoholic," she acknowledged. "I just hope Kim will be healthy, happy and sober for the rest of her life. She's got four amazing kids, she's an incredible mom and she has a lot to look forward to."
Richards has struggled with alcohol abuse for years, and entered rehab after her public intoxication arrest in April. She was arrested again for shoplifting in August, and sentenced to probation, community service and A.A. meetings for the incident in October.
News of Richards' improvement comes amid news that she will appear on a new reality series with "The Hills" star Heidi Montag. Sources told "Entertainment Tonight" the pair are slated for a show about "famous mothers and daughters who have faced public struggles."
Kim and Kyle Richards came to fame as child actresses and went on to star on the Bravo series "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills."
Kyle Richards recently told executive producer Andy Cohen her relationship with her sister will "always be a work in progress."
